Activities

The core of NewWave is made up by the four Manufacturing Lines (ML). By using the outputs of the Thermo-Chemical-Fractionation (TCF) the will enable the production of:

ML1

The sugars obtained from the TCF will be processed to produce polyols. This will then undergo further purification and physical treatment to obtain polyurethanes.

ML2

newwave-project-activities-img-ML2
The sugars obtained from the TCF will face a process of dehydration & separation to ultimately refine furan-based chemicals.

ML3

The lignin obtained from the TCF will be used to produce a resin that coupled with durable wood chips will enable the realization of engineered wood panels.

ML4

Formulations of the fast pyrolisis bio-oil will be used as a wood modification agent, improving the characteristics of the wood treated.

SCOPE

newwave-project-activities-img-scope
NewWave aims to replace current construction materials with more sustainable, bio-based products. In particular, replacing steel and concrete with cross-laminated timber or replacing chemically treated wood for outdoor use with modified/engineered wood. This allows the phase out of toxic chemicals like formaldehyde and creosote.
