Raw materials for a sustainable circular economy – Launch of the NewWave project
NewWave project aims at wood-based materials to replace steel and concrete as structural components, modified/engineered wood to replace tropical hardwood or chemically treated wood for outdoor use, and Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) and plywood for interior usage.
Thermo Chemical Fractionation – TCF
In NewWave, TCF will produce the raw materials (Lignin, Sugars and Bio-oil) for the four manufacturing lines developed by the project. The feedstock for the TCF plan will be biomass residues, organic waste and end-of-life products.
The importance of Lignin
Lignin is an organic polymer that, together with cellulose and hemicellulose, is the main component of plants and trees. Essentially, it’s the component giving wood resistance and waterproofness.
